Very long instruction word architectures for digital signal processing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Due to advancements in semiconductor processing technology, unprecedented levels of system integration are now possible in digital signal processing systems. MIMD/multicomputer architectures used for parallel digital signal processing applications are not always e cient, and are di cult to program. Very long instruction word processors are uniquely suited to digital signal processing applications, able to exploit opportunities for ne and coarse grained parallelism e ciently without the overhead of MIMD/multicomputer approaches. A exible, high-level language programming environment has been developed in support of this processor paradigm.

Energy Savings with Appropriate Interconnection Networks in Parallel DSP
This paper presents an instruction level power model for a very long instructions word (VLIW) single instruction multiple data (SIMD) digital signal processor (DSP). We show that power consuming memory accesses can be reduced in such SIMD processor architectures with an appropriate network connecting the parallel register files and/or data paths. Several network topologies are analyzed for a va...
متن کاملEE 382C Embedded Software Systems Project Proposal
Objective: The goal of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness of two different techniques for exploiting the Instruction Level Parallelism (ILP) available in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Multimedia applications. VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word) architectures have multiple functional units to take advantage of such a parallelism, while the SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) a...
متن کاملOn Efficiency of Transport Triggered Architectures in DSP Applications
The trend in programmable architectures for digital signal processing (DSP) is to move towards high-level language programming, which sets high requirements for compilers to efficiently exploit the instruction level parallelism in modern processors. In this paper, efficiency of transport triggered architectures (TTA) in DSP applications is discussed. The efficiency of a high-level compiler on a...
متن کاملProgrammable VLIW and SIMD Architectures for DSP and Multimedia Applications
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and multimedia workloads are expected to be the dominant workloads on future computer systems. This is true in both low cost embedded applications that use specialized microprocessors like DSPs and in the generalpurpose processor market. Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) architectures have multiple functional units to take advantage of vastly available Instructio...
متن کاملPower Estimation on Functional Level for Programmable Processors
In this contribution different approaches for power estimation for programmable processors are presented and evaluated concerning their capability to be applied to modern digital signal processor architectures like e.g. Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) -architectures. Special emphasis will be laid on the concept of socalled Functional-Level Power Analysis (FLPA). This approach is based on the ...
